subject: Turbocharger - An Overview Before Buying It At Vividracing.com [print this page] To do miracles, it is very important to have speed if you want your automobile winning a race. Increasing the air compression rate and density increases a greater mass of air entering the cylinders on each intake stroke. For this purpose, a device called turbocharger is designed to increase the engine power and torque. It is the device that brought the revolution into the automobile racing.
A turbocharger, or turbo, is a gas compressor that is used for forced induction of an internal combustion engine. A form of supercharger, the turbocharger creates more power by increases the density of air entering the engine. It has the compressor powered by a turbine which is driven by the engine's own exhaust gases rather than direct mechanical drive allowing the Turbocharger to achieve a higher degree of efficiency than other types of forced induction compressors which creates parasitic loss.
Since the turbocharger increases the pressure at the point where air is entering the cylinder, a greater mass of air (oxygen) will be forced in as the inlet manifold pressure increases. The additional air flow helps in maintaining the combustion chamber pressure and air/fuel load even at high engine revolution speeds, increasing the power and torque output of the engine. The pressure in the cylinder must not go too high, to avoid the detonation and physical damage. A control function is performed by the waste gate which routes some of the exhaust flow away from the turbine and helps in regulating air pressure in the intake manifold.
Components:
Turbocharger has the following components: The turbine (almost always a radial turbine) and impeller/compressor wheels are each contained within their own folded conical housing on opposite sides of the third component, the center housing/hub rotating assembly (CHRA).
The turbine collects and directs the gas flow through the wheels as they spin with the help of housings fitted around the compressor impeller. The shape and size can dictate some performance characteristics of the overall turbocharger. Often the same basic turbocharger assembly will be available from the manufacturer with multiple housing choices for the turbine and sometimes the compressor cover as well allowing the designers of the engine system to tailor the compromises between response, performance, and efficiency to application or preference. The center hub rotating assembly (CHRA) houses the shaft which connects the compressor impeller and turbine. It must also contain a bearing system to suspend the shaft, allowing it to rotate at very high speed with minimal friction.
Many turbocharger stores are available now days in the markets or on the internet but, you need to go to the one where your time and money both are utilized properly. To solve the problem of wasting time and money, many online websites offers its services in the process of purchasing the turbocharger. Purchasing turbocharger from an online website is quite risky than purchasing it from a dealer in the market and needs caution and full knowledge on the same. No matter your car is new or old, many turbocharger manufacturer companies manufacture wide range of turbochargers which can be available for your car too.
