Sydney Film Festival Begins To Reveal Its Lineup For 2010

Yes, its that time of year againYes, its that time of year again. As the winter chill starts to set in (kind of) and the umbrellas come out (hopefully), we find the thermos hidden in the cupboard, fill it with coffee, and head on down to the lovely State Theatre for the Sydney Film Festival.

Roman Polanskis The Ghost Writer starring Ewan McGregor, Exit Through the Gift Shop by art prankster Banksy, Grard Depardieu as a beer-bellied biker in Mammuth and Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett in The Runaways. These are the first Australian premieres to be announced by Festival Director Clare Stewart.

On this years festival, she comments: We are thrilled by the success of the new programming approach introduced at the festival last year. We now present the films in pathways that are all about the viewers choice. Every Sydneysider will ask a friend, partner, parent, lover, what sort of film do you feel like seeing tonight? and they can find the answer in our program films that make you laugh, fire you up, take you on a journey, push you to the edge, freak you out, and films that let you love the one youre with.

Other program highlights include the best documentaries on music in Sounds On Screen including the Canadian Genius Within: The Inner Life Of Glenn Gould; Oil City Confidential, a full-on as always doco from the UK's ace rockumentarian Julien Temple on cult R&B band Dr Feelgood; and the eagerly anticipated The Runaways, which charts the rise and fall of the 70s all-girl group that rocked to fame with Cherrybomb, featuring Dakota Fanning as lead-singer Cherie Currie.

The full 2010 line-up will be unleashed on 7 May and you can get regular updates through Twitter and Facebook.
