Dinosaurs As Plush Toys

You would be hard pressed to find a child that has not at one time, loved dinosaurs. From dinosaurs plush toys, to action figures to movies, children think dinosaurs are the most incredible creatures they have ever seen.

The domination of the dinosaur took place in what is referred to as the Jurassic period, which was 200 to 145 million years ago. What is now considered the largest and most vicious animals to ever inhabit the planet, lived at that time. Reptiles were the rulers of not only the land, but also the air and sea. In addition, the first ever known birds, emerged from that period as well. Overall, dinosaurs came to exist because of dramatic geological changes which took place at the time and led to major reconfigurations of the land.

The supercontinent Pangaea, eventually began to break up during the Triassic period which caused Africa to split apart from South America and India to move toward Asia. North America also broke off and drifted west. With such widespread continental movement, the Atlantic ocean was eventually formed. With the drifting of North America, it also caused volcanic movement to take place which in turn led to the birth of the Rocky Mountains. Areas that had once been dry and barren, now were soaked with rain that was brought on by the newly created bodies of water. The severe heat that had once existed in many areas became warm and relatively comfortable. With evidence of widespread coral reefs, due to the moist and mostly tropical weather, it lay the groundwork for both plant and animal life to be able to thrive.

While plants and trees did quite well during the Triassic period, they did even better during the Jurassic, becoming the staple food for many dinosaurs. During the early Jurassic, prosauropods (plant eating dinosaurs), were some of the most common vertebrates. During the later Jurassic, the predominant plant eating animals were sauropods such as Apatosauros, which weighed 30 tons and grew to 90 feet in length. Stegosaurs was another common herbivore that lived at the same time they had horned, toothless beaks and spent most of their time using them to eat leaves and other types of plant material.

Meat eating dinosaurs also developed during the Jurassic period in which they feasted on the dinos that ate plants. Each animal developed its own body weapons and the ways in which it hunted. Dilophosaurus, for example, had a double head crest which gave it a devilish look, in addition to its razor sharp claws on its hand and feet. Cryolophosaurus, which was nicknamed Elvisaraus, because it had a head crest pompadour that was shaped like Elvis', was able to run after prey because it had very powerful legs.

Given the existence of dinosaurs, it would only be a matter of time before likenesses of them were created. dinosaurs plush toys are just a few of the many number of toys which can be found on the market today. The beauty of dinosaurs plush toys over all the other dino toys is that unlike the real thing, they are soft and huggable, lending themselves to something that children can easily relate to. In addition, some dinosaurs plush toys are so realistic looking, a child gets to have the best of both worlds: a terrifying, lifelike soft toy and a snuggable companion.
