The Australian Republic Question

For those planning to move to Australia, work visas are probably some of the most common ones to be applied for. Indeed, the land down under has always been considered as one of the best places to work in. However, with all the things that has happened in the last few years, a lot of people are worried that the country might not be the right place to be in right now.

One of the biggest that the country faced in the last two years was the financial crisis that hit the world in 2007 to 2009. As is with other countries, Australia had to struggle in order to stay afloat during the economic slowdown. And one of the things that many companies here has resorted to in order to cope with the crisis is to slow down on getting new workers.

Now, after two years, the Australian economy is slowly on its way to recovery. And with that, companies have also started to take in workers anew. However, the recovery came alongside the new set of immigration rules implemented by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

For those not that familiar with this one, the DIAC has introduced a host of new changes to the countrys immigration programs. The biggest of these is the reorganization and the stricter application rules to be used for the skilled migration program. With the way the changes are likely to affect the flow of applicants, it is not surprising that some observers are concerned that the countrys foreign employment rate will also suffer.

However, with the new survey figures coming in, it seems that the bleak scenario that a lot of groups are worrying about is not going to happen anytime soon. As it is, job advertisements have posted a 2.7% growth in the last few months. Though this might seem not that large, this actually indicates that employers are indeed still confident of Australias drawing power to foreign workers, despite the stricter application process.

Here, one contributing factor for many employers confidence in the Australian job market is the way it was able to handle the financial crisis. While other countries were still in the dark as to how to work out the situation, Australia was able to set up a mitigation plan. And though they did feel the effect, the country was able to stay afloat of the situation. Thus, Australia was one of the countries that were able to immediately come back and start rehiring more foreign workers.
