subject: The Gaff Nightclub, Sydney, Australia - Review [print this page] Okay this place is Backpacker Central! To give you a quick rundown it has the best drinks specials, the best backpacker style entertainment (meaning fake orgasm contests, hooking up with randoms on stage and all kinds of funny stuff.
At the time of writing this article, entry was $10 and included a meal and 2 drinks. Not sure if that is still on but it definitely gives you an example of what to expect.
Despite the fact it is dirt cheap, the venue itself is surprisingly good, far better then what you would expect. Located below street level, The Gaff is an underground labyrinth of sorts, with a sunken dance floor and stage with sandstone walls and an amazing lighting and sound system. Formerly the venue for the infamous Rogues nightclub, the place has done a complete 180 degree turn to be the best backpacker venue in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
We went there to celebrate a mates little brothers 21st birthday and needless to say, a hook up was 100% assured here. There is a great mix of guys and girls and if you dont get lucky on the dance floor, there is always the hook up competitions.
The good thing about the Gaff is that unlike other backpacker venues, non-backpackers are more than welcome to attend. Whilst Ive only been there a few times, every time I go something interesting happens and chances are if you go with a group of friends with an open mind and a few to many drinks, you too will experience something a little bit different at The Gaff.
Another thing that sets this place apart is the sheer size of the place. Most backpacker orientated clubs are rather small, which does have its benefits however can feel at times a little bit claustrophobic. The Gaff on the other hand is pretty big, and provides the atmosphere of a regular nightclub with the antics and raunchiness that comes with backpackers.... It makes for a great night out!
