Scenarios To Watch Out For With Motorbike Insurance

It is extremely important that you have the right level of motorbike insurance, as there are many things that can go wrong when you are out and about on the roads. There are things that can even go wrong when you are not riding your bike, such as when it is parked in your driveway, so becoming familiar with your policy is the only way to make sure you have the cover that you desperately need.

You have come home from a hard days work and simply parked your motorbike in your driveway, ready to settle in and relax for the evening. Usually you park it in the garage under lock and key, but you are just too tired today. When you go out the next morning to hop on, your motorbike is not where you left it and has been stolen. So, you immediately call the police or check around with the neighbours if they saw anything suspicious and your next call will most likely be to the insurance company. This is when you find out that your policy only covers your vehicle when it is locked up in your garage, because that is what you stated when you originally organised your policy details. Ouch! You forgot about that!

You are riding your bike around town doing errands, you are familiar with where you need to go and you usually have your favourite places to park your motorbike. You come back from doing the errands to find that someone has scraped the paintwork and dented the frame, with what appears to be a trolley, or perhaps a car door. After you have finished cursing, you start to think about your options and how on earth you are going to get it fixed. The person who has instigated the damage is nowhere to be seen and they have left you no note that provides you with their details and an apology.

After a long wait on the phone to talk to an insurance representative, you find out that unless you have the details of the other vehicle or person involved you are unable to make a claim. Now, not only will you need to pay for the damages yourself, you have alerted the insurance company to the fact that your motorbike is now not in the same condition that has originally been stated on your policy. Double ouch!
Scenarios To Watch Out For With Motorbike Insurance

These are only 2 scenarios that outline the need for having the right inclusions on your motorbike insurance policy, and there are probably hundreds of different scenarios if you had the time to think about them. What is important to note is that it is up to you to make sure you have the right level of cover. The insurance broker isn't going to say - now you do realise that if someone dents your motorbike and leaves no contact details, that your policy will not cover you. No, the insurance firm will make sure you have a lot of cover that comes at a price, however it may not be the actual cover you need.
