subject: Questions to Ponder before Buying a loaf of Bread [print this page]

Can store bought bread possibly cause cancer? Are there harmful chemicals in store bought bread? Are you really getting a good deal with the cheap store brand bread? It's truly interesting to ponder the questions that so few people actually consider. Do you ever consider these burning questions when you are in the grocery store? Or do you just run through the motions and buy whatever seems to look the best for your family? I know I find myself just roaming through the motions when shopping for my family meals. I rarely stop to think about what I am really getting into. I used to ignore these questions simply because I felt the price tag on making my own bread was simply too high. Now I am afraid that the price tag of not paying attention might be even higher.

I recently read an article that suggests that some of the additives in store bought bread could cause cancer. Now I am not sure if I truly believe that or even have taken the time to prove it. However so many questions arise because of that simple statement. Just reading that article made me actually read the ingredients on a loaf of bread. Can you pronounce all those ingredients? I know I can't even begin to know what all those ingredients are let alone what they do to my body.

I am not sure how much bread your family goes through but toast is my daughter's favorite food group. There again another good reason to consider making my own bread. The thought of all those extra ingredients going into my daughter's body really scares me, especially when I know that I can prevent it. I also have an unborn child to think of, hardly crossed my mind until writing this article. Now this doesn't make me a bad mother I know, just an uninformed one.

Now I've been pondering this decision to make my own bread for some time. Number one for me is simply the ingredients. By making my own I know exactly what is going into my body. Now I am not sure of the science in my statements, but wouldn't homemade bread give you more energy? Think about it no additives, simple ingredients, guaranteed fresh. Makes sense to me. I have a very hard working husband and I want to make sure that he is getting the healthiest meals I can provide to him.

I guess I can be called a procrastinator, I know it is better for my family and me. However I have yet to make the concrete decision and take the appropriate steps in this direction. I know I am not the only one reading this who is pondering. Isn't it time to take those steps toward a healthier lifestyle? Don't you think we should dust off those bread makers and finally put them to good use? It's not hard to understand that making your own bread is a good decision.
