subject: Choosing The Best Wedding Date [print this page]

Before you do anything else planning your wedding you must set your wedding date. It is a fun project, but be prepared to be challenged. Determining the best possible wedding date sounds easier than it is. You have to consider a lot of occasions and important dates when choosing the perfect wedding day. The day you get married will be determined by factors such as venue availability, holidays, school schedules, who can attend, and many more.

From the time of the engagement, the wedding date is usually set about a year or a year and a half after the engagement is announced. With the ton of things you need to select, hire and prepare, you would need at least a year to make sure everything will be set up and ready for the wedding. You should also consider the schedule of your loved ones before deciding on a specific date for your wedding. If you want the most important people in your life to attend your wedding, you must consider their schedule. Some of the things you might like to check would be business schedules, holidays, anniversaries, graduations and other occasions that may make it difficult for these people to come to your wedding.

Holding your wedding at the peak of the wedding season may bring with it further complications. It is not only more difficult to find available vendors and venues; the prices are normally higher too. Therefore, you have to be prepared for a higher-than-normal cost when booking for you after-wedding party venue, video recording services, floral decorators, limos and much more. Not only do you have to worry about the hiring rates, you also have to consider that most of those you want to hire or rent may already be fully-booked. Your dream location may not be available on your dream date, so don't fall in love with a venue until you have secured it for your date.

May through September are among the busiest months for weddings. If you can, consider getting married one of the off months. You'll find it a lot easier to book a venue for your wedding during the months of November to April. Not only would you have more choices available, you also have a better chance at negotiating price and terms. When you set your wedding date during the slow months, vendors would be outbidding the others to get you as their client.

Holding you wedding day on a Saturday would mean that you have to start making your reservations really early to get the date you want. It may seem to be the most convenient day for your guests to show up, but it would also be harder to resolve schedule conflicts and haggle with pricing and terms. Fridays and Sundays are considered the next best days and are still much more convenient than other days.

Difficulties are a normal part in selecting the best wedding date, any date you choose will have its own advantages and disadvantages. Your challenge is to consider the best possible wedding date based on your needs and desires.
