subject: Troubleshooting temperature spikes and seal wear in Horizontal Bead Mills [print this page]
Hey all, I am looking for advice on the optimization of our horizontal bead mills for a heat-sensitive ink dispersion. We are currently using a continuous pass system, and we continue to hit high-temperature limits on our mechanical seal, even though we have our cooling jacket set to maximum cooling. We are using 1.0mm ceramic beads and have a bead filling rate of approximately 75%. My thought is that we might be running our agitator shaft speed too high, which may be producing excessive friction. Has anyone successfully reduced their operating temperatures through adjustments in flow rate or reductions in media load, while still achieving the same level of fineness?
