subject: Small Changes That Will Get You Losing Weight [print this page]

Losing weight is not easyLosing weight is not easy. All you have to do is look around and you will probably see a lot of evidence of this. About seventy percent of the people in this country are overweight and many of those people are obese. Unfortunately, it takes a medical scare to bring most of these people back to the real world. If you do not get down to a healthy weight your quality of life will suffer not to mention that you will be reducing your life expectancy by years.

If you are more than 100 pounds overweight, you should talk to a medical professional. They can recommend what is going to work best for you in this situation. It is also important that they do a physical and monitor your blood pressure and sugar levels. When you have this much weight to lose you are probably going to need assistance just to know where to start.

For individuals that have less to lose, you can begin by making simple changes to your lifestyle. Adding more water to your diet is an easy one. Increase your fluid intake by 10 ounces a day and when you are able to easily manage that increase it more until you are drinking about 60 ounces per day. Add fruits and vegetables to your diet. Try to eat 5 vegetables per day. Most of us do not eat near enough fruits and vegetables. If you are able to do this, there is a good chance you will be eating fewer unhealthy foods and if you have cravings, eating the proper foods will help eliminate them.

Start walking. If you can begin with 3 twenty minute walks each week you will be off to a good start. You will want to increase this over time and add strength training to your exercise program as well as stretching exercises.

These are 3 simple changes that you can begin making as soon as today. Once you feel you have more energy and see the pounds begin to drop off, this will give you the incentive to do other things that will allow you to live a healthier lifestyle.
