Rameshwaram is an island which is located in the gulf of the tip of Indian peninsula. Rameshwaram is the vital pilgrimage center for the Hindus. It is the place from where Lord Rama started to built the bridge across the sea to rescue Sita from Ravana. The place is also popular where Lord Rama has worshiped Shiva to remove the sin of killing Ravana. The Vaishnavites and Shaivites both visit the place as the place is known as the Varanasi of South.

Ramanathswamy Temple: Constructed in 17th century, close by the sea on the eastern side of island and the temple is popular for the 1200 gigantic granite columns. The 54 meter tall gopuram (gate tower), 1220 meters of marvelous corridors and also the flamboyant columns that that enhances the fame and beauty of the temple. There are 22 sacred wells of water in the temple that is having different tastes.

Agnitheertham: Agnitheertham is located at the distance of 100 meters, it is the spot where Lord Rama worshiped Lord Shiva to absolve himself for killing Ravana.

Gandamadana Parvatham: It is the place where the Lord Rama's feet is placed on the Chakra (wheel) is found on the shrine that is the highest point on the island at the distance of 2 kilometers from Rameshwaram.

Erwadi: It is an important site for the Muslim pilgrimage which houses the tomb of Ibrahim Sahid Aulia. The place is located at the distance of 24 kilometers from Rameshwaram. Muslims from all across the world visits the place during the month of December at the annual festival which is celebrated as the tribute to saint.

Reaching Rameshwaram:

The nearest airport from Rameshwaram is Madhurai at the distance of 173 kilometers. The place is also having major links with the all the major southern cities like Chennai, Madhurai, Coimbatore, Trichy and Tanjavur. The place is also connected directly from all the important city of Tamil Nadu through the regular buses and taxis. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport operates the regular buses to Rameshwaram.
