subject: Baby Swing – Safety First [print this page] A baby swing is an important baby product that you must have at home. It gives you a place to put your baby in as you do other things or as you rest. Baby swings are generally made such that they will be safe for babies. Some still encounter accidents using baby swings but they are largely due to improper usage. So to ensure that you do not experience this, here are some of the safety precautions that you must always remember.
First, put the swing where you will see it at all times. It is important that it is in your full view so you will be able to monitor how your baby is doing. However, do not make the mistake of putting it in an elevated place just so you could see it always. You see, as the swing moves to and fro or side to side the base also moves although little by little only. But just the same these little movements could lead the swing to fall off.
Always secure the safety straps or seat belts. Even if you do not intend to leave the baby in the swing for a long time, still use the straps. Make sure that is tight enough so that your baby will not fall on the side or slide down. But also make sure that it is not too tight that your baby will feel uncomfortably.
Never transfer the swing to a new location while the baby is still strapped there. Do not move it to another place whether it has stopped swinging or not. If you are going to move it say from the living room to the garden, pick up your baby first.
Do not hang toys in the swing for your baby to play with. They may cause accidents like falling off or choking. If you want your baby to have something to hold, choose the design that has built in toys.
Lastly, do not change the position of the reclining seat while the baby is still there. If you are going to adjust the position of the seat, pick up your baby first.
A baby swing can be very safe for your baby if you will use it properly.
