subject: Talking Globe, Reasons why Girls and boys Ought to Discover more about Geography? [print this page] I do think, sadly, we are all guilty of presuming that everyone knows about where they are living, but they are not that familiar with where everybody else is from. As an example, My partner and I recently met someone from Sweden - who was completely stunned that a few people believed there were polar bears walking around on the high streets of Sweden and that the capital city was Denmark... but she herself had no clue what the capital of Bolivia was (we met in South Africa, both traveling to expand our views and had an interesting conversation with a woman from Bolivia - hence why I knowthe Swedish girl had no clue!).
Regretably, one particular nation which is famous for its poor understanding in geography is The USA, where apparently 6 out of 10 people today can not locate Iraq on a world map - a country who has been in the news more than enough to be popular by nearly all US residents you'd have thought. It's also very common for People in america to consider that Europe is a single nation, not many various ones!
I wish my folks had been more clued up with what the globe looks like and what countrys are where - they're still completely clueless! in spite of all my trips and attempts to up-date them with the changes in the world. I think, if they had tutored me more (and had the knowledge to do so), I might have been much more understanding during my early travelling years, to the needs and cultures of people in different nations around the world. It could also have made it much easier for me to explain to them why I needed to go travelling and discover the entire world on my own, personal terms!
My grandaddy had an old world globe in his tv room, it was and still is one of the most gorgeous ornaments I have ever seen, because it represented the planet to me when I was a little kid. Not surprisingly, it was very old and out of date and I was not permitted to touch it...
Then when I had kids of my own, I made the decision to get them into geography and to never keep this wonderful knowledge from them. I found the concept of a Talking Globe to be incredible - the easiest way to educate and have fun at the same time! I bought the Vtech Fly and Learn Globe for my children and
they absolutely love it. They're able to pretend to be on a airplane with a warm and friendly pilot who flies them across the world and they find out
about all the wonders of the world, the different dialects and different music as they go! Wonderful!
Another Talking Globe I have used is the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe Deluxe. It is great for the whole family, as it provides challenging quiz games and interactive lessons as well as a facility to up-date directly from the Internet.
It is incredible just how much having a Talking Globe has improved our family - my youngsters now understand about the countries I have been to, and which ones they would like to check out when they are older. It allows them to dream and envision that they are flying around the world - what more could you possibly want?
