subject: Could donning your yoga clothes help you shed baby weight? [print this page] A concern of many pregnant women is how long it will take them to shift the excess weight they gain by having a baby - and indeed whether they will ever return to their original size.
Indeed, such a worry is this issue to some people that it can put them off having children completely, particularly those whose careers may rely on their figures.
However, there are a number of ways in which new mothers may be able to get rid of the fat they gained.
According to model Gisele Bundchen, putting on yoga clothes and doing the exercises recommended by instructors can help.
The Brazilian, who is one of the best paid models in the world and has also appeared in the occasional film, "snapped back into runway shape just weeks after giving birth" last year by engaging in the activity.
However, slipping into yoga clothing is not sufficient in itself, she noted.
The 30-year-old was also careful about how much she consumed while she was expecting her child.
She stated: "I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate and I gained only 30lb."
Her comments have been supported by guidelines recently issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, which suggested women should avoid eating for two when they are pregnant.
Experts at the organisation suggest that consuming too much food during the nine-month period could put the health of both the mother and the unborn child at risk. They also advice mothers to shed their baby weight as soon as possible after giving birth.
So by being careful in terms of diet and donning yoga clothes after giving birth, it seems women may stand a better chance of getting their pre-pregnancy shape back.
