Useful Tips For Living Happily With Dogs

Living with dogs should be a happy and comfortable experience fore everyone. By taking your dog's needs into consideration, as well as your own, you can make the relationship even stronger. People have many reasons for keeping dogs. Some want protection, some want companionship, others want to get a dog for their children. More and more dogs are being used as therapy dogs, too. Whatever the reasons, here are some useful tips for living with pets:

Keep a Regular Exercise Schedule

Not only will exercise keep your dog less anxious, it's great for you, too. A dog who gets tired out from lots of walking, won't have excess energy to mess things up in your house. An extra benefit to exercising with your dog is that this is a great way to bond with the dog, which also makes him mn ore secure and less likely to be destructive.

Give High Quality Food

Feeding your dog right will go a long way in terms of helping him to live a long, healthy life. A dog who is getting the right nourishment is less likely to have to visit the vet or to show strange behavior. A good diet for your dog also makes cleaning up after him a lot less unpleasant.

Proper Clean Up

Proper clean up is essential in living with a dog. If you walk him in your neighborhood, you're both going to be very unpopular if you don't clean up after your dog. Failing to clean up after your dog is also unfair to other dog owners as it gives everyone a bad image. Living happily with dogs includes being a good neighbor and not letting anyone consider your dog a pest. In your own yard, don't let the doggie-do sit around collecting flies and other insects make daily clean up part of your routine.

Brushing your dog's coat often is a good way to keep debris out of your house and it's another great way to bond with him. Vacuuming your house as often as necessary - even daily - will let everyone breathe easier. Since dogs are so sensitive to smell; rather than covering up odors with scented products, try baking soda or charcoal (not the briquettes, however) to eliminate those odors entirely.

Get a Friend for Your Friend

Dogs are social animals, if you have to leave your dog alone all day you increase the odds of him getting up to mischief. Getting another animal for your pet not only makes him less lonely when you're gone, it makes you feel less guilty about being gone in the first place. When dogs feel less anxious, they are also less likely to do the things their people find upsetting and annoying. Living with pets is not just good for you it's good for your dog, too!
