Tips For Perfect Kids Kilt Outfits

Childrens' kilt outfits and how to choose the best package for your little one

Some children's items are sized by age for example a kilt for 2-3 year olds rather than in inches as is usual for adult sizes. As such if your child is tall or big for their age it's worth asking the shop you are buying from to measure the items so that you can get the best fit. You can then take your own measurements at home. For a kilt you will need to take two measurements. Unlike trousers the waist measurement is taken at the belly button and should be a snug fit. Keep the measuring tape taught as you don't want the kilt to fall down! The second measurement, to find the length (or drop), goes from the bellybutton to just on or above the knee. The easiest way to get an accurate measurement is for your child to kneel down keeping their back straight, then take the measurement from the belly bottom to the floor.

You have several options when buying a kilt or kilt package for your little one. If you are happy with one of the more popular tartas you can opt for a pre made 'off the peg' kilt. As part of a standard range this is the most economical. For those extra special occasions such as wedding where you are looking for a specific tartan, a made-to-measure tailored kilt can be made in any tartan as long as it is not a restricted tartan giving you a choiceof 1000's. A made to measure kilt also guarantees a superb fit as it is made to the exact measurements of your child.

A tailor can make inexpensive adjustments to a kilt you already own to get the perfect fit. Most good kilt companies can arrange this for you. For example if you ask a tailor to hem the bottom of the kilt this can be let down as your child grows and provides extra years of use. This also works well if a child is inheriting a kilt from an older sibling.

If your child has sensitive skin and finds wool itchy, a kilt made from another fabric such as polyviscose is a great alternative to the traditional wool kilt. Polyviscoise is made from a mixture of polyester and viscose. It is softer that wool, but looks and feels very similar. Another advantage is that it is machine washable, invaluable for small children. Along the same lines when hiring a kilt or kilt outfit for your little one, taking our insurance, usually around an extra five pounds covers you against accidental damage and provides piece of mind.

With you kilt chosen you now have a number of options; a Prince Charlie jacket is popular for formal events such as weddings and christenings. The jacket usually teamed with a wing collar shirt and bow tie looks very smart. For a more casual look a Ghillie shirt in black or cream is a rugged option perfect for outdoor events, sporting occasions and hot climates. Accessories for kids are much the same as those for adults, although the range tends to be slightly smaller. Sporrans are available in dress, semi-dress leather day versions in very small sizes. Obviously sharp items may not be appropriate for the younger child, and some items such as a sgain dubh don't come in really small sizes. Kilt accesories in their smaller version are sure to attract comments as to their cuteness!.

Kilts are a great Scottish tradition and allows you child to feel part of an special occasion and proud of their special heritage.
