subject: Overview Of Dental Implants [print this page]

Dental implants are a remedial dental treatment devised for the people with missing teeth. Patients suffering from dental diseases and the ones entering into the older years in ages experience broken teeth. This ultimately leads to decrease in self confidence levels and increased confinement behavior, particularly at an individual level. The surgical treatment termed - Dental implants; exists as a solution for the problem under consideration.

Depending on the number of teeth and implants to be placed, there are three types namely:

-Replacing single tooth: replaces only single tooth.

-Replacing multiple teeth: replaces more than one tooth.

-Replacing complete set of teeth: replaces the complete set of teeth.

This dental treatment actually involves artificial teeth, made-up of a chemical called Zirconia. It has a screw like structure that is implanted in the teeth bone and has a crown like area that looks like the crown of an original tooth. This surgery is done in a way, such that, it replaces the problematic teeth without affecting the adjacent teeth. This helps in providing support to the rest of the original denture and diminishes any possibility of problematic removable dentures.

Technically speaking, the surgery can be done in two ways, depending on the condition of the teeth and age of the patient. Types of dental implants surgery are:

-In the bone: involve implant done into the dental bone itself. This is the preferred type of surgery in most of the cases.

-On the bone: involve implant done on the dental bone. This is the type of surgery done specifically for the patients having lower height jaw bone.

However, there are certain implant problems that the patients may face after getting the implant done. These can be easily managed and taken care of by the dentists, and hence, it is advised that the patients should visit the doctors regularly or as advised after the surgery.

There are specialized dentist, called, Periodontists; who perform such implants. Many such clinic in India, have been established by the doctors for providing affordable dental implants. The cost of dental implants in India is not much, specially compared to the costs incurred in some other countries. Due to this very reason; patients from outside India, plan a visit to India and get it done while they enjoy their tour in India. This phenomenon is popularly known as Dental Tourism in India.
