How Not To Break Your Bank Account While Holiday Shopping

Holiday shopping does not have to leave a hole in your wallet. Manufacturers and retailers are competing against each other for your business which is why they offer sales, discounts and coupons on items that you may purchase. It's just up to you to take advantage of them.

Start by getting organized. Figure out what you need to buy and how much of it you need to buy. Make a list of those items and do not leave on your next shopping trip without that list. A list is important because it keeps you focused.

Go through the store ads before you go to the store. Knowing what is on sale and comparing it to your list will help you figure out what items you will save on. Those savings may allow you to add other items to your list or you may end up removing others. You may also substitute items for comparable ones that are on sale. You can also use comparison shopping apps to determine who has the lowest price on your items. For those who are not app savvy, just doing a search for your item online will pull at least three current prices and where you can find them at those prices.

If you are loyal to one retailer who offers points, rewards and coupons, this is the time to start cashing in on them. If you are not a member of a loyalty program, it may be time to sign up especially if you plan to make sizable purchases. Some retailers offer a discount just for using their store card. For those who are averse to using credit cards, store or not, retailers also offer store debit cards which are linked with your checking account and still qualify for the discount.

This Holiday shopping season does not have to leave you in debt. Retailers and manufacturers are competing for your business and they will entice you enough to get it by offering you sales, discounts, and coupons. Now, it's just up to you to do a little research and take advantage of the savings.
