Justcloud Online Backup Review: What Is Justcloud Online Backup?

JustCloud is a cross-platform, versatile and powerful backup solution for end-users. It could also serve well as a business solution, due to the security of the transfers.

JustCloud offers three gradations of service, plus a free service. The free service is really only good for use as a trial. The gradations of service include unlimited storage for a month for $9.95, a 6-month block of storage for $6.96 per month and a 12-month block of storage for $71.40 total, or $5.95 per month. The free service only allows you to upload 15 megabytes of data. This is obviously not terribly useful, but it will give you an idea of how their system works, which is the entire point.

There is a desktop application that you use to interface with the backup server. There is very little intervention needed on the part of the user to make the system work. In fact, once you get going with the application, you can pretty much set it up to do your backups on a regular basis and forget about it. This makes it useful for those who need to back up their systems on a nightly, weekly or on a regular basis at other intervals.

Pros

One of the primary strengths of JustCloud is that the application works with most mobile devices. This makes it extremely useful for those who need to be able to access all of their stored files when they're on the go. If you want, you can even use your mobile device as a way to transfer files to remote computers when you're out and about. There's a scheduler feature that allows you to set backups at regular intervals so you don't have to worry about it. You can also set it to back up automatically when the system is idle. FTP access, web access and iPhone access are all available.

Cons

Some of the drawbacks of JustCloud are really only minor. The most significant drawback is likely the fact that the backup feature does not adjust its bandwidth usage automatically. If you're using your network resources heavily, the automatic backup could conceivably slow them down.

Analysis

The cross-platform compatibility of JustCloud makes it a very interesting offering. The only system with which it's not currently compatible is Linux, but it will work with just about anything else, including both the iPhone and Android operating systems for mobile devices. This level of compatibility will be vitally important to people who have a multitude of devices they use.

Conclusion

If you're interested in an online backup service that's convenient, easy to use and that doesn't require a lot of intervention, JustCloud is something that you'll want to take a look at. You don't have to worry about any issues with compatibility with your platform. Remember, however, that the fact that you cannot adjust the bandwidth may be problematic for some users who are worried about keeping their network speed as fast as possible at all times. Scheduling backups for low usage times is a good solution to this problem.
