Selecting A Wedding Venue

The wedding venue where you choose to tie the knot and celebrate afterward will be an important decision. In fact, it is one of the earliest ones that will have to be made in order to decide all of the other details. Many brides and grooms have no idea where to start and often have lots of questions. Here are some of the FAQs answered.

Is it better to choose a location close to home or is traveling a good idea? Some couples decide to hold their event at an out-of-town location that is special to them. If they met in Hawaii, for example, they might want to hold a beach wedding there to celebrate. If all of their relatives live far away anyway, flying a bit further might not make a difference. Beach weddings can also be held in closer regions in the country for the same effect.

If a destination wedding is chosen, should the couple visit the locale before their big day? Yes; online photos and descriptions won't be the same as going into the room, sampling the cuisine, and getting a sense of the ambience. If they've been there before, they don't necessarily need to go unless many years have passed. Lots can deteriorate over time, and you don't want to discover this on the evening before your wedding with all your friends and family flying in.

What are the pros and cons of weddings out of town at exotic locales? Some brides and grooms who have always wanted to travel somewhere, such as Paris, decide to hold their ceremony there. Talk about a memorable wedding venue! The cons of this would be that not all of their friends would be able to afford to attend. The pros include that it would be extremely memorable for everyone. It might even cost less than a local wedding because fewer attendees would show up and less money would need to spend on decorating, catering and more. Who needs decor when the Eiffel Tower is your backdrop?

What sort of local venues are available? There are lots of choices to fit a range of budgets. Anything can be a venue if it means something to the couple. Some individuals have held their events in the coffee shop or laundromat where they first met. Others have held them in a national park under an awning. Still others rent a wedding hall or reserve the ballroom of the most elegant hotel in town. The possibilities are only limited by one's imagination and pocketbook.

How soon should the planning begin? A year is not out of the question, especially if the venues they're considering are popular. There may be lengthy waiting lists or a limited number of dates available.

When a man and woman decide to tie the knot, there are many considerations to ponder. Where they'll hold their happy occasion will be one of them and their own research and creativity will lead them to the wedding venue that will be perfect for them, locally or out of town.
