How Soon Should I Take Out Critical Illness Insurance?

The best idea is to take out the insurance as soon as possible, in fact the earlier the better. Although when you are younger you may not want to think about the future in many different ways, but suffering a critical illness will certainly not be one of them. Not everyone will suffer a critical illness, but the thoughts of what would happen if you were to suffer are unthinkable. An illness can occur at any age and therefore we need to be prepared for such a possibility, however this may all come down to the cost of critical illness insurance.

The cost of critical illness insurance will vary from one person to the age, as the price of the insurance is dependent on a number of different factors, such as date of birth, gender and smoker status. There are a large proportion of people within the UK, who do not have such cover in place, and what would happen to them, their children but also their lifestyle if the household income were to be cut. People should consider such insurance at a young age because it is not just the elderly who suffer from critical illnesses such as heart attacks and strokes it can also affect people of a younger age. Although critical illness insurance is looked upon as covering someone for major illnesses like cancer, heart attack and strokes but there is a lot more to their contract. Such insurance would cover an individual for up to forty illnesses for example; however this is dependent on which insurance provider it is taken out with as they will all vary not only in the number of illnesses covered but also the severity and definitions of those illnesses covered.

There may only be a handful of people who if suffered a critical illness would be able to carry on and be financially secure, however this is a small amount and such insurance could still be taken out to ensure that if medical attention was needed and you may need to pay for it, then the money is there to use if needed.

Taking out such insurance may also cover your children, so this may be another advantage to taking out such cover because if you start your own family your whole life changes. For one thing your life may get a lot more hectic and for some people this may already be the case and so find it hard to find the time to look into such cover. This is where speaking to an adviser may be able to help because you can discuss what you need from the application and they can then do the research for you and come back with a price and you can then decide if this is acceptable or not. If you need to alter the cost of the insurance they will be able to do this for you until you feel happy, they can then go ahead and complete the application form with you.

An insurance provider will have various price changes but once the application has started then if taken out on a guaranteed basis the price will then not change. You would always need to keep them updated with your current contact details such as address and telephone number so that they could contact you if necessary. If you were to look at increasing the sum assured then this would typically cost more than what you were paying as the higher the sum assured the more the insurance costs on a monthly basis.
