Rodents Can Threaten You And Your Family's Health - Here's How To Get Rid Of Them

For the average homeowner, there are a few pests that present a serious danger to ones health and to the health of ones family. Foremost among these are rodents such as rats and mice. In part because they adapt so easily to living among humans, there is a nearly limitless list of diseases that they can carry and transmit to whoever lives in proximity to them. Some of these maladies such as hanta virus and plague are potentially fatal to humans, and many deaths in history have been recorded due to people living in close quarters with rats and other rodents.

Most of the time an infestation of these creatures will begin simply enough, it will often be one or two solitary rodents that enter the home in search of food or a warm place to shelter themselves. If they find either or both of these things, they are liable to maintain their presence in the home for as long as they can, until they are killed or forcibly removed. The nests that they live in present the greatest hazard to ones health, due to the fact that their waste products are often riddled with bacteria and viruses, and can easily and quickly become aerosolized throughout the home. Breathing in this waste dust can lead to the aforementioned ailments and is a serious risk that comes along with rodent infestations in the home.

When it comes to getting rid of these problem pests or how to catch a mouse, there are generally two main options available to you. The first are mouse traps that work by physically confining or killing the rodents. The second are poisons that can be eaten and returned to the nest by the rodents, leading to their eventual death.

If using traps, you should be aware that you have to check and empty them regularly to have them be the most effective choice.

They are also better suited to smaller infestations, as it is difficult to place enough of them to have an impact on larger or more widespread problems. For these types of issues, rodenticides are much more effective but they also have a few special instructions you should be mindful of when using them. The simple fact with many rodenticides on the market is that they can be harmful to people and to domestic animals if there is any accidental contact. Because of this you should invest in a rat bait station when using poisons in order to protect your family from potential exposure that could lead to harmful side effects.
