subject: Family Guy - A Fictional Family That Entertains You!! [print this page]

There have been a lot of occasions, when I would sometimes surf the channels to find a suitable program that suits my daily dose of entertainment on my Verizon FiOS TV. It is not that there is no decent piece of entertainment program nowadays, but I am quite selective about the programs I watch. You know the kind of person who hates tragedy, mushy romance, etc. I would like to watch those programs that are informative, entertaining and humors. That is when I found a suitable animated cartoon that had me in splits and got hooked up. It was the animated comedy television series called The Family Guy.

When I just saw the name, I, like all people, thought it was about the antics of one person , but after watching a series of episodes, I realized that the antics was about the members of the Griffin Family who are the main characters. The members of the Griffin family consist of Peter Griffin, the irresponsible father and a loving husband who is also stupid, irritating, the kind of person whom you would avoid; Lois Griffin, the loving wife and mother, who is very much worried about her husbands idiot antics; Meg the eldest daughter, who is uncared and ugly, a kind of girl which every parent would avoid to have; Chris, the son who is just like his father, stupid and fat; Stewie the youngest son, two-year baby who can talk and is a genius; Brian, their family dog, who can speak, is an author, liberal and drinks martini.

Now what makes the Family Guy a good entertainment is that it shows a family in a particular class of a society where you wont see a father who is such irresponsible, a wife who likes her husband, even though he is quite a loony character, a girl who is constantly the ridicule of the family and a prey of her fathers unhealthy jokes, a son who is very much like is dad and has no clue on how to date or even talk to a girl; their dog Brain who can speak , read and is a author of boring frictional stories, who even drinks vodka and martini; and a two year baby Stewie who is quite intelligent and has the mind and intelligence of a scientist. I mean in most of the episodes, Stewie is shown making various machines like time machine, a dimension teleportation machine (a machine that takes to another dimension) etc.

Seriously, you all know that it is quite impossible to find such kind of characters in real world, unless you must be living in a fictitious world. Okay whatever it is, such characters do make us laugh even though some of the antics that are shown are quite unacceptable.

In one episode, Peter literally punches his wife, attacks her from behind and throws her into the trunk of the car which he abandons in a mountain, just to make Stewie laugh and have an enjoyable time with him. Come on man, no husband does this to his wife unless he is a person who enjoys hurting his wife. Also there was an episode, where Stewie kills the familys replacement dog (in that episode Brian is thrown out of the house due to his non belief in God and Peter brings home a new dog that becomes an instant hit with the family) just because the dog played with his teddy bear Rupert. He kills the dog and buries the body in the back yard of the house. Yeah, I know you guys would be thinking the same thing, how can a two-year old child kill a dog by himself and bury the body. It is stupid and illogical.

However, idiotic and absurd the antics of the Griffin family may be, but it still attracts us because we feel bored and disoriented watching the same reality shows, dramas, that have the same concept. We, at times, want some kind of entertainment that makes us sit up and watch, laugh and even poke fun at other people, especially celebrities, which the animated cartoon Family Guy does regularly. So what I feel is never give up on your daily dose of entertainment at any cost.
