More Italians Projected To Go On Dominican Republic Holidays In 2012

Following the 32nd Bit- Borsa Internazionale del Turismo (International Tourism Exchange) also commonly known as BIT, Dominican Republic officials are confident that Italy will continue to be one of its key source markets and contribute to the growing popularity of Dominican Republic holidays.

The Dominican Republics Vice Minister for Tourism, Magaly Toribio, led the delegation at the Italian networking event held between the 16th and 19th February 2012 and declared the event as a resounding success. Our participation in that fair can be considered a rounding success [our participation] guarantees that the flow of tourists from Italy continues growing this year, just as yearend 2011. We managed to reconfirm the support of the Italian market, which has always been one of the most important markets in Europe and which already had obtained an extraordinary recovery last year Ms Toribio said.

Officials from the Caribbean Island have used the event as a platform to ensure that the island is able to build off of the successes of 2011- a year which saw Italy emerge as a key source market with a five per cent growth in the number of Italians who booked Dominican Republic holidays. One of the key outcomes of the attendance of the Dominican Republic delegation at Milans BIT was successfully planning and negotiating with various providers to ensure that non-stop Dominican Republic flights remain readily available from Italy.

With a host of Italian airlines including Air Italy, Alitalia Neos Air and Blue Panorama offering flights to the Dominican Republic, travellers have the convenience of direct access to the beautiful Caribbean island from Italy on any given day of the week. At the moment we have 11 weekly flights from Italy that arrive directly at La Romana. We managed to keep those flights in the summer and the opening of a new flight starting June and another with the route Milan-Santo Domingo in December Ms Toribio added.

With an abundance of flight options, travellers have more time to spend on planning the other details of their Dominican Republic holiday experience including which of the many Dominican Republic hotels they will choose to stay at and which of the many pristine white sand beaches they would like to visit during their stay on the beautiful Caribbean nation.

BIT is considered to be one of the key events for the tourism industry. This years edition was attended by 5000 companies representing 130 different countries. Of these 5000 companies, key Dominican Republic hotels were in attendance including the popular Viva Wyndham Grand Hotel along with one of the leading luxury Dominican Republic resorts Paradisus Punta Cana as well as Cap Cana Golf and Spa hotel.
