subject: Managing Your Temper For The Benefit Of Your Family [print this page]

It can be hard to learn new techniques for dealing with anger both for the person suffering and also for their friends and family, but really, as soon as the problem has been identified it's very important that it's dealt with for the peace of mind for everyone involved. When a person is not in control of the anger they feel, the other partner may be resentful and fearful. It is important to learn to control your temper and not let it take control of you and your life.

People need to understand what exactly makes them mad. Frequently the triggers that makes someone lash out at a loved one may be an issue at work or in another part of their life. One must recognize the root of one's anger before it can be effectively dealt with.

If you do feel that you are about to blow, there are some techniques which you can use for coping with anger. When you are angry it may sometimes be helpful to get away and give yourself some time to cool off. To relieve the stress on your body and mind, it helps to engage in vigorous physical activity. Sometimes all you need to do is take a deep breath and count to ten. Make sure you are aware of the problem and how it can affect you and those around you.

Are you aware of a person who is always trying to see what is positive or humorous about life? Someone who always tries to smile, even when the chips are down? I'm sure you do. I doubt the person becomes angry easily, since they have a good sense of humor. Imitating them in that respect could you stop growing angry so easily.

Additionally, it can be helpful to change your environment if you want to change your anger patterns. It could be as easy as using candles rather than bright lights or taking a walk to ease the tension of a situation before your temper erupts. Taking the time to sidestep these situations will help you learn how to control your anger, waiting until you have calmed down enough to face things in a better state of mind. By learning to relax and recharge your batteries you'll be better able to cope with whatever confronts you.
