Increase In Indian Couples Choosing Weddings In Thailand

Weddings in Thailand are becoming increasingly popular for couples from India and over the last three years, the Tourist Board and local restaurants and event management companies have seen a large increase in visitors from the country planning their special event.

Thai-Indian owner of a local Bangkok Indus restaurant, Sid Sehgal, says that he organised 40 weddings in Thailand for Indian couples in 2009 and so far this year he has organised 28 special romantic events.

Thai tour operators and event management companies in Bangkok and Phuket have been organising every aspect of a wedding abroad for Indian couples including airport transfers, accommodation, local transport, ceremonies and the reception.

Many Indian couples getting married in Thailand chose Bangkok as the location for their lavish ceremonies and receptions but the island resort of Phuket is now becoming a popular wedding destination as well as a honeymoon hotspot for newlyweds.

The increase in couples choosing to enjoy weddings in the beautiful country has also led to an increase in India tourists to Thailand with 530,000 visitors last year and this year's Indian arrivals expected to exceed this figure.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is also expecting to increase the number of high-end travellers from India and is organising a golf tournament in November for leading players from all over the globe and a Mumbai-based company will be selling golf merchandise throughout the competition.

Thailand is situated in South East Asia and is home to lush green mountains, river valleys, wildlife parks, white sandy beaches, emerald and turquoise ocean waters, and a tropical monsoon climate.

Bangkok is a vibrant and bustling city which is made up of high rise skyscrapers, rivers, floating markets, and historical sites and with an international airport; the city is the major tourist gateway into Thailand.

Phuket is Thailand's largest island situated off the west coast in the Andaman Sea and is made up of beautiful west coast beaches, coral reefs, and large mountain ranges. The island's main nightlife and shopping area is located in Patong and the region is a popular spot for snorkelling and scuba diving activities.
