Going Out Of Town? Where To Leave Your Pet?

The exciting feeling of going out for a vacation might make you forget that you will be leaving your beloved pet dog alone. Some dog owners feel that is ok to leave their pet dogs home, especially if they have a big, scary looking dog. This might suffice for a day or two, but would be unacceptable for longer periods.

The option of course, is to leave your dog in the care of someone you trust. The traditional method of leaving your dog with family and friends can work, but what if are unavailable or their landlord doesnt allow them to keep pets?

Consider leaving them at a pet boarding house. It will also be like giving your dog a vacation of their own. When looking for a good pet boarding house, consider the following features.

Grooming center

A pet boarding house that has a grooming center or area means that you can set an appointment for your dog get cleaned and brush while you are away. You can also ask the dog groomers to trim and shape their fur so that they look good. Along with their fur, the grooming center staff can also take care and clean their paws, nails, teeth and ears.

Check their menu

Always take time to check what they will feed your dog. Some dog boarding houses feed dogs with cheap, generic dog food thats of poor quality. Request for a specific brand or meal that you want them to feed to your dog. You may also arrange that your dog be fed with dog food you are willing to provide.

Make sure they are close to a vet

Check if they are located near a vet clinic or if they have a resident veterinarian who they can call in case. Your dog will not be the only dog in the boarding house, and it might get into trouble. Having a vet around is also a big plus especially if your dog is sick. Dogs that are sick with degenerative myelopathy will need careful monitoring, so staff members need to have a vet on call.

A wide space to play

Choose a place that has a spacious lawn or backyard where they will allow your dog to play and run around. Exercise is important, especially in dogs that are experiencing joint and nerve illnesses like hip dyspepsia, arthritis, and degenerative myelopathy. If they dont have a big area for exercise, then request to have your dog regularly taken out for a walk at a nearby part or around the neighborhood.
