subject: Throwing A Meaningful Baby Shower: 4 Unique Ideas That Work [print this page]

Whether a woman is having her first or fourth baby, a meaningful baby shower helps her prepare for the new arrival and shows that her friends love and support her. While every baby shower should be unique to the mom or mom-to-be, there are several components that every great baby shower has. Here are 4 great baby shower ideas that she will love and that work very well:

1. Pick A Theme - Picking a theme for a shower can be super easy or it can be very challenging. Rack your brain and think of activities the mom likes that have something to do with babies or children. For example, if you know the mom loves books, you can throw a library themed shower. Each guest can bring books for the baby as gifts, for instance. Other potential baby shower ideas include sports, music, or new beginnings.

2. Invitations Are Important - You will want to make sure all the guests know when the shower is and will need time to get gifts, etc. You can send out invitations via e-mail if you wish, but paper invitations are usually taken more seriously and are more meaningful. Plus, you can have a lot of fun creating paper invitations that go along with your chosen theme! Remember to send out the invitations at least a few weeks in advance. And try not to schedule the shower too close to the due date. You don't want to have to cancel because the mom-to-be has gone into labor.

3. Decorations Add That Special Touch - People should know they are at a shower the minute they walk into the space. Choose decorations that match theme or suit the mom-to-be's taste. Putting her favorite flowers as a centerpiece on the food table is a good start. Fill balloons with helium and scatter them around the room. Consider using decorations that also double as party favors, such as small glasses of flowers or tiny potted herbs. If you know the mom to be has a sweet tooth, use candy as a decoration. Chocolate coated candies or jelly beans look fantastic when used to fill small glass jars or wine glasses.

4. People Will Want Snacks - Planning a shower's menu can be the most enjoyable part. You can choose to serve some pregnancy craving foods. Ask your friend if she has been craving anything and be sure to put that on the menu. Otherwise, menu items can range from finger foods to a full meal. Ask the mom what she would be into for the shower.

You don't have to be a professional party planner when you're hosting a meaningful baby shower. Keep the mom-to-be's tastes and wants in mind and you should be able to throw a memorable, stand-out shower.
