Even if governments are willing to move forward with these types of projects or if shipping and freight companies have the capital or can get the financing, it takes time to build the new railroads, highways or ports. This time factor will definitely impact the rate of growth of the shipping industry. In other words, the longer it takes for building to begin on infrastructure projects, the longer it will be before growth in the shipping industry can continue.
Other Shipping Concerns
One of the other main concerns that the shipping industry must face is the environmental footprint that is being created. There are engineers who are working on more efficient engines for all modes of transportation, and many people are working to eliminate waste from the industry. There is quite a bit of research that needs to be done on the negative environmental impact of certain aspects of this industry and how it can be reduced.
