subject: Colorado Men Face Criminal Menacing Charges [print this page]

In Colorado, as in the rest of the nation, even those charged with the most heinous of criminal offenses have the right to a defense attorney. The Constitutionally protected right serves as a safeguard to our liberty. The right is extended to all, whether we personally believe they are guilty or innocent of the charges faced.

For example, two Colorado men were recently arrested by a Denver SWAT team and now face criminal charges in connection with what authorities are calling a brutal attack and carjacking of a Wheat Ridge, Colorado woman. According to police reports, the two men, a 19-year-old and an 18-year-old, were arrested at a home in Denver. A spokesperson for the Wheat Ridge Police Department indicated that there is also one other adult and a juvenile who have been identified as suspects. Police are not releasing their names publicly.

Investigators believe that the two men arrested used a BB gun that looked like an actual gun in the attack. They have recovered the alleged weapon. Both men are being held in the Jefferson County Detention Center. The 18-year-old has a bond of $10,000 and the 19-year-olds bond has been set at $50,000. Though authorities say that more criminal charges are pending, so far, they both face a felony charge of menacing and a criminal charge of aggravated robbery.

Despite the criminal charges facing these two men, and anyone else who might be arrested in connection with this incident, a Colorado criminal defense attorney can assist them in getting the best possible outcome to their criminal cases. Because a Colorado criminal defense attorney has expertise in Colorado and in how the courts operate, defendants do not have to attempt to navigate unknown territory alone. In addition, a criminal defense attorney will be able to ascertain if the defendants rights have been violated in any way, either during the arrest or in subsequent questioning by police or the District Attorneys office.

Though it is easy when we come across sensationalized news stories in the media to assume that anyone who is arrested for a criminal offense must be guilty, most of us know someone who has been unjustly accused of some offense. Whether it is a criminal offense in the eyes of the law, a workplace violation of some company policy, or even the accusation of lying from a friend or family member, all of us understand the desire to provide an adequate defense when we are falsely implicated. If you are facing charges in Colorado, a criminal defense attorney can assist you in building that defense.
