The Branch Manager is the administrative head of a bank. Therefore he has loads of duties and responsibilities to carry out every day. He looks after the day to day administration that includes customer service, operations, security and safety, product sales, and lending, in conformity with the objectives of the bank. The Branch Manager in a bank offers training and supervision, leadership, and also assigns day to day duties to the operations officer or other branch personnel. A very important responsibility of the Manager is achieving bank and branch goals by active participation in officer call programs and sales management. He is responsible for the development of new deposit and loan business.

The Branch Manager assures promotion of sales and service through guidance, coaching, and motivation of staff. He also tries to achieve individual and branch sales goals with the help of referrals, new business sales, and retention of account relationships. He takes part in community affairs so that it increases the visibility of the bank. This also enhances existing and new business opportunities. An exceptional communication skill is highly required so that he can represent the bank. The success and failure of the overall goals of a bank and also growth and development in business depends heavily on the Branch Manager.

Managing the teams and supervisors to ensure their continued focus towards achievement of overall area targets.

Ensuring that appropriate remedial action is instituted for all the queries and all cases are followed up to its logical end.

Handle post issuance credit card and other unsecured and secured product functions.

Conduct quality checks on a regular basis and contribute to staff development.

Ensuring adequate manpower is available to action all accounts.

Ensuring that the workload is equitably distributed.

To track branch employees productivity reports and performance MI.

Achieve continuous improvement in quality, workflows and staff productivity.

Implementing proper procedures and to ensure all the policies, regulations, audit recommendations and key indicators are followed religiously.

The Branch Manager has to ensure that the flow of work is smooth even during vacations. He has to be aware of the team requirements and also make periodic appraisals to keep up the motivation of the employees. He should have the capability to effectively resolve any problems or controversies where the customer of staff is involved. In absence of the Operations Officer, he might need to carry out duties as directed by the Regional Manager. To apply for the post of Branch Manager in a bank, one must hold a bachelor's degree or have an equivalent experience. In most of the cases, a person who was involved in managing of employees for minimum two years is also required.
