The job of a Bank Probationary Officer is rather simple but responsible as he has to look in to the day to day transactions of the bank and also the administration related work. The Probationary Officer job is limited in initial stages but with time and experience he is assigned day to day activities of the bank which includes routine work like posting, scrolling and advancing anything which is required by the bank.

The Probation period is the start of the banking career. It starts with probation and can end as becoming the chairman of the bank. Every candidate has to be on probation period which can vary from 6 months to two years as well. There are many live examples of individuals who started their career on Probation and are now the Chairman of the very same bank. The duties assign to the Probation Officer are somewhat similar to the junior level executive but once the probation period gets complete there are number of opportunities to acquire success.

The job profile of the Probationary Officer includes reporting to the senior manger and hence he has to be on toes all the time. Since the job profile of the probationary officer involves admin work, the day to day transactions is handled by him. He is responsible towards his co workers and not only that towards the customers. The profile entails other small work like attending the various training and seminars and billing and accounting information. Being skilled in marketing and sales department could be an added advantage. During his tenure he can removed from office without notice. But once the probation period gets completed then he becomes an indispensible part towards the organization. During the probation period he is assigned various tasks on marketing, accounting, human resource, and management. Depending on the way he has performed in that period, his duties and department is allotted to him post probation

The job profile of a probationary officer is accepted to be minimal in nature during the start of the career but that will not be the case when the tenure is completed. It is a long journey to power. Private Banks in India like ICICI, Axis and Kotak Bank offer a PO training program and they hire the candidate but Nationalised Banks like Indian Bank, Bank of Baroda etc recruit candidates for PO post after they have successfully cleared the IBPS common written exam and have a valid score card.
