Simplify Your Digital Life With Wall Plates And Hdmi

The chances are your home entertainment system is bigger than ever before. With a huge variety of options available, you may well have an HD TV, set-top box, hi fi, DVD or Blu-ray player, and a games console. Thats a lot of kit, and with it, a lot of cables.

Most people who have a hi-tech home cinema and other gizmos also want their home to look great. Unfortunately, having a huge tangle of cables next to your TV doesnt really create the right ambiance.

A partial solution is to use HDMI cables to connect all your compatible devices. They transmit audio and video through a single lead, which helps keep things a little tidier. For the ultimate finish, though, you cant beat wall plates.

Wall plate systems consist of a faceplate, which attaches to a back box on the wall, and cables which run through the wall. Instead of using huge lengths of cable to link devices together, most of them are hidden, allowing much shorter (and therefore cheaper) cables to be used to plug devices into sockets on the wall plate.

Wall plates are available in single and double gang sizes. These are standard sizes that most people will be familiar with from electrical and phone sockets. A plate with a single electrical socket is single gang, and one with two is double gang. Larger plates allow users to make more connections, and there are a huge variety of sockets that can be fitted, from HDMI inputs and phono leads, to VGA and USB.

Wall plates make your home look great, with a wide variety of finishes available and less cable clutter. However, they are also safer and more convenient. Cables often attract dust, and there is nothing worse than looking behind your TV to find a nest of grimy wires which need a clean. If most of the cabling is in the wall, this isnt a problem. Exposed wires are also more vulnerable to damage, and ruined cables can be expensive to replace, especially if they are long ones. Wall plates allow you to have shorter cables connected to your devices, which are less prone to damage and less likely to be tripped on.

Plates are available to suit a range of skill levels. While some require soldering, others are ready for cables to be plugged into them. For extra customisation, Euro modules are available which allow a sort of mix and match approach different combinations of module can be fitted together. Some companies will even create bespoke wall plates with the exact inputs you need.

Whether you are a gaming addict who doesnt want cables dangling from their plasma screen, or a business owner after a tidier office, wall plates can be the perfect solution.
