subject: Jewish Wedding Items [print this page]

Many people plan their wedding for spring and summer to take advantage of the great weather. It is a joyous time but also a stressful one. It involves a lot of planning, shopping, and preparing. You should recruit friends and family to make the process easier. You can also shop online for a lot of what you need, this will save you time.

The first things you will need are wedding kipas. Traditionally these will be white or black but the trend today is color. Increasingly even brides are opting for colorful dresses as opposed to the traditional flowing white gowns. It really just depends if you want to go modern or traditional. Either way, just make sure the wedding kipas match.

You also need to think of the food choices at your wedding. Traditional Jewish food is the way to go. Make sure to have a carafe of Jewish wine at each table and a challah strategically placed under a challah cover. A challah cover turns an otherwise ordinary loaf of bread into something special. Make sure to also have some vegetarian and gluten free options, because even if your wedding party is small there is bound to be someone with a food sensitivity.

One thing I would highly recommend is having a gift registry of sorts. You don't want to be stuck with 5 Seder plates or 3 toasters. It puts you in awkward position because you don't want to return a gift but having duplicates of something is just a waste. Sometimes being in charge of the Jewish gift part of the wedding is better delegated to someone else. After all, you want the gifts to be a surprise, and it's a bit uncouth to be involved in gifts being given to you. Opt for someone close enough to you to know what you want but defiantly don't do it yourself.

Sometimes it's also a good idea to give gifts at your wedding. Even small Jewish gifts like picture frames, gift baskets, anything people can take home with them. It's a small token of appreciation for their attending and giving you a gift. Although you may remember this day forever those in attendance may need a little something to remember the festivities. That is especially true for older friends and relatives.

Jewish weddings are joyous and downright fun. Just don't let the stress of planning ruin the big day. Some things will go wrong, but overall it will be great, so roll with the punches.
