subject: Have You Checked Your Breast Implants Lately? [print this page]

With everyone placing so much importance on how and where to go if you want to increase the size of your chest, not much focus is being given to the maintenance of breast implants. If you want to stay healthy and keep your chest in excellent shape, you need to have your breast implants checked and taken care of just as if they were yours organically.

You should be aware of how important it is to do a self-exam of your chest. Early detection of any lumps or irregularities is essential to preventing any serious health issues such as breast cancer. The sooner a lump or inconsistency is detected, the better the chances are for you to fight and beat it. There are several ways you can do the self-exam: while you are in the shower, in front of a mirror, or lying down.

It is recommended that you perform your breast implants exam right after your menstrual cycle since this is the time of the month when they are less sensitive. While standing in front of a mirror topless, visually inspect your whole chest. Look at the shape and size of your breast implants and make sure that the color and texture of the skin is consistent with the skin that is on the underside of your arms. It is normal for there to be small discrepancies in size and shape of your chest. In most women, one side is always slightly larger than the other. Raise your arms while you look at your chest. Get familiar with the way everything looks so it is easier to spot any abnormalities in the future.

While lying on your back on a flat surface, place a pillow underneath a shoulder and position your arm in an "L" position from your head. Feel with your other hand. Using the pads of your fingertips, press and feel fall the way from your collarbone to your armpit and breastbone. Take your time and be very thorough. You want to make sure that you cover every piece of skin so you don't miss anything. Repeat the process on the other side.

Remember, it is in your best interest to do a self-exam at least once a month. You will become more in tune and aware of your body. In addition to doing your own examination every month, you should also schedule a mammogram at least once a year. This will detect anything that is too small for you to feel or anything that you may have missed. If during any of your exams you find something suspicious, contact your doctor right away. They can perform tests to determine if it is something you need to get taken care of or not.
