subject: Buying Sheer Ribbon For Your Gift Shop [print this page]

Sheer ribbon has a place in every gift shop no matter if it is the holidays or the middle of the summer months. Having an on-hand supply that offers plenty of options in color and type encourages customers to invest in a gift-wrapping service. This is a nice add on to any purchase for the business. It is also a great way to get more customers in the door. If they can buy their gift and have it wrapped at one location, that's going to save them time and money. However, to make this work, you need to have the right types of supplies available to the customer.

Tips for Buying Ribbons

Sheer ribbon comes in a variety of options. Buying it means you are considering the overall needs of the customer. Unfortunately, no two customers are the same. Therefore, it is critical to have a wide selection of product for the consumer to select from for their specific gift giving needs. A good place to start is with color. Offer an assortment of bright and deep colored ribbons to ensure customers have plenty to choose from for their package. It is a good idea to offer a variety of tones of colors if you have ample storage space for them.

Considerations for Size

Depending on the average size of gifts in your location or the box sizes in your shop, you may want to offer a variety of sizes as well. Some are as small as 7/8 inch thick while others are an inch or more. A large ribbon on a small box is not a good mix. On the other hand, a large box with a very small ribbon does not work well either.

To keep your costs down, buy in bulk. Many distributors sell these on long spools. The longer the spool is, the more cost effective it will be for you to purchase it. If all of the boxes you plan to wrap are larger, it helps to have a larger amount of ribbon available for these projects.

Think Material

Also note the amount of sheer quality to the ribbons. Some are very thin. Others have wiring built into them so they can hold a shape. Depending on the type of paper and the overall quality level you plan to offer your guests, you may want to consider various qualities of material for them to select from for their packages.

Keep in mind these are add-on costs in some gift shops. Therefore, that sheer ribbon you are wrapping around the package may be a great way for you to add a bit more profit onto the purchase. Even if you offer this wrapping without cost, you will appreciate having a wide selection of products to satisfy customer needs with.
