Parents, who want their kids to have strong and healthy teeth, need to take constant care of right from the stage when their children start eating. Even when the baby is not born, the teeth are formed in the first six months of pregnancy. oThe tooth brush to be used must be soft and it should have round bristles. The child must be taught to use the brush in a circular motion as this cleans the inner surfaces of the mouth also.

oParents must be present when the child is brushing to make sure that the toothpaste is not swallowed.

oToddlers must be encouraged to have food which is good for their teeth such as cheese, yogurt, raw vegetables and sugarless candies.

oA child must not be allowed to go to sleep with a feeding bottle in the mouth as this can cause serious cavities called Nursing Bottle Caries.

oA child should not be given food which has the tendency to stick to the teeth.

oThe food items which contain higher percentages of acid and sugar should be avoided.

oSnacks between meals must be minimized as it is not possible to brush teeth after each and every meal.

oPacifiers should not be given to the children once they have reached the age of three as they can interfere in the overall development of the teeth.

oThumb sucking leads to malformation of teeth and tends to make them curved and crowded.

oAs every child loves to play, the parents have to take care that they do not hurt their teeth, lips and gums when playing.

oThe trips to the dentist must be made fun as this is the only way that a kid would not hesitate to go there and have his teeth examined.

oBefore the teeth erupt, it is always advised to clean the mouth with a damp soft cloth.

oA toddler needs to be taken to the dentist once in every six months.

oThe brush must be changed after every six months and the kid must be encouraged to choose his/her own toothbrush.

oOne most important tip is to brush with your child as this helps the child to learn the right method of using brush.

By following these simple steps, parents can take care of their childs teeth and make the child understand how important hygiene is and ways to maintain mouth hygiene.
