subject: Planning A Wedding Reception On A Budget [print this page]

Although the ceremony is part of your wedding day that is important and really the most important part in terms of your future, the wedding reception will be a very memorable part of your day. It will likely be the most expensive part of the day as well. As you plan this part of your day, you should look at your decorations, catering, and banquet hall as specific areas to plan.

The decorations for your wedding reception are going to be a large portion of the money that needs to be put into your budget. As you think about this aspect of the day, remember that it is just one day. Try to think of your decorations as dispensable. You want them to look like high-class arrangements, but the key is that it is just the appearance. You should not pay for the real thing, but you can easily find faux items. Real flowers are not even a must, but if they are a must in your eyes then you might look for less expensive flowers.

The caterers are the most expensive part of your wedding reception. They are also the most important part. People who come to support you and bring a gift probably will expect good food. It is a good idea to think of it from this perspective while at the same time considering what you and your groom like. To save money you might want to decide to do fancy finger foods rather than a served meal or a whole buffet.

The banquet hall might cost about as much as your decorations. Sometimes, if you get married in a church, you will not even have to be concerned about the cost of a banquet hall because the church might have its own hall. If you do need to pay for one then you should shop around for one that you can fit into your budget.

After you consider these three areas you should allocate percentages to each area of the budget. About fifty percent of the budget should go to the catering, and the other fifty percent should be allocated to the decorations and the banquet hall.

Once you have your budget figured out, you can begin enjoying the process of planning what you want your wedding reception to look like. You can begin researching the best deals on decorations, banquet halls, and the food. Soon the picture of what your special day will look like will be complete.
