subject: Wedding Planning For Beginners [print this page]

After you've done some research about wedding planning, scanned the books and leafed through the magazines, you'd be astounded by the volume of information that need to be digested.

This is completely understandable it is a bit on the daunting side. Planning a wedding is definitely not something you can throw together in a matter of days, and there will certainly be quite a few projects along the way to keep you busy.

But these 'projects' can actually be fun a lot of fun! Some who loves challenges will even welcome the opportunity.

Most importantly, keep things SIMPLE.

There will always be another photographer to interview, another centerpiece idea, another wedding favor website. Go with your gut feeling and make quick decisions. That would be one less matter to attend to.

Decide on a good filing system before you begin.

Categorize your transactions and make an individual file of each containing all the pertinent papers, receipts, and reminders. Better still, buy a labeler for $20 to $30 dollars at an office supply store to mark and identify the respective folders for easy file keeping. Mark the folders containing the different groupings, e.g., catering, guest lists, the entourage, venues, etc.

Move your feet! Don't fall behind your daily accomplishment schedule.

Prepare a timetable of your activities based on what comes first. Don't try to do all of these at once - take one at a time and consider putting the others on your calendar so that you know they'll get taken care of, just not all today.

Get help or assign responsibilities.

Get help whenever you can friends, the wedding entourage, family members, or if they volunteer their services, then by all means oblige them. If there are parts of the planning that you know you don't need to be (or care to be) directly involved in, ask for help.

Have FUN.

Some jobs can be tedious and tiresome and will take some time, but there will be easy days when you can spare time for a spa treatment. It will be good idea to get a regular supply of wedding magazines which you can refer to regularly for ideas and inspiration when you hit a blank wall.

And lastly, don't worry that you won't possibly be able to do all of these things...

Everything will get done, in due time, and you'll see all of your hard work pay off when things really start to come together. So start planning, and have fun!
