Fractional Boat Ownership: An Economical Cost Strategy

Timesharing may be a relatively new concept that's only about 50 years old, but it has certainly amassed quite a number of advocates. To put it simply, you may utilize a (timeshared) property anyhow you wish for a limited time, normally for a week. From vacation homes to marine vessels, timeshare extends as well to a term known as fractional boat ownership.

It all commenced in the 1960s in Europe, in the French Alps, in particular. Hapimag, a Swiss ski resort company developer at the time, commenced operations at an unfortunate time--the resort industry in Europe was in ruins, and the new firm suffered the burden of it. Unless the Hapimag's operator back then, Guido Renggli, could think of a way to turn the tables in the company's favor, Hapimag would go through a slow and painful death. Peculiarly, he came up with the principle of timeshare from an unlikely source: coffee shops.

As soon as cafes in Europe realized that it would be too expensive (and too extravagant) to sell a whole cake to walk-in patrons, these establishments came up with the idea of selling cakes by the slice, where they may be enjoyed by many, and eaten in one go. That provided Hapimag that coveted Eureka moment. What if they were to sell the resort, in parts?

At first, it didn't proceed as favorably as the company expected, yet it became truly worth the hard work in subsequent years. Renggli claimed timeshare had already existed before he thought about the concept, but it had to deal with a shoddy reputation, as a result of mismanagement. In this case, not only did he plug in and enhance the company's timeshare strategy to a completely new level, but he also successfully knocked off timeshare's seemingly unshakable bad image.

Fast forward to the 21st century, the company still flourishes under new management, broadening from ski resorts to luxury residences all over Europe. As time went on, other kinds of timeshare for boat use, aircraft, and other luxury properties were introduced to the market. The timeshare industry in the United States commenced in 1974, although the strategy was already established in the Virgin Islands the year before.
