If you want to remain rooted in tradition but don't really want to get married in your everyday church, you can find a small chapel instead. Unbelievably quaint, many small chapels are located in beautiful areas that practically scream matrimony. One advantage to going this route is that you can save a lot of money. Instead of paying to decorate an entire church, you can keep things on a smaller scale and not feel as though you skimped. This is also perfect for those who don't intend to invite hundreds of people to the ceremony.
The Shore
Other than perhaps the mountains, there are few more lovely backdrops for your ceremony than the water. Whether you live near a river, a lake, or -- if you're lucky -- the ocean, the shore can make a beautiful place to get married. The idea of getting betrothed on the beach is so popular that it almost doesn't fit a list of unconventional wedding venues, but it is still very much the minority option. Of course, the same perils that exist that accompany any outdoor ceremony. Namely, the weather has to cooperate.
Country Club
You don't necessarily have to be a member of a country club to see them as viable wedding venues. Many clubs specialize in putting on ceremonies of this type and will be happy to show you what they have to offer. They are likely to be a bit pricier than some of the other unusual possibilities, but if you have the money to spend, they will be able to take care of you. This will also allow you to have the ceremony and the reception at the same place, which is important for many people.
The Park
Most cities have at least one or two beautiful public parks that can make wonderful wedding venues. Contact your local city officials and inquire about the possibility of getting married in one of yours. The weather issue is again on the table, of course, and you may want to avoid park/playgrounds so you don't have a bunch of noisy kids interrupting your ceremony.
