subject: Just The Ultimate Grand Canyon Tours From Las Vegas [print this page]

If you're wondering about things to do at the Grand Canyon, consider taking one of the fantastic package tours that are out there. Your options include touring by bus, boat, helicopter, or airplane. Any choice is a good one; you will have an amazing experience no matter which tour you select.

If price is a priority, then taking a Grand Canyon tour by bus would be good because it is the least expensive. Next, ranked according to price, are the boat trips followed by airplane tours. Helicopter tours are the most expensive. You can find value tours and 5-star tours for each type. The 5-star trips cost the most, but they provide the best service using the best equipment, so your trip will be much more enjoyable.

If you plan to visit the West Rim, you can choose a tour that departs from Las Vegas, and if you are going to the South Rim, you can depart from Vegas or Tusayan, Arizona, which is just outside the main entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park. You can only visit one rim at a time since the tour packages don't include both of the rims.

Touring The Grand Canyon By Helicopter

Helicopters flying out of Vegas can't make it to the South Rim and back, so those flights only visit the West Rim. However, if you are determined to see the South Rim and you are staying in Vegas, you can choose a 45 minute flight by airplane or a 5-hour ride by bus. The choice is yours, but you can imagine what most people opt to do.

You'll find lots of interesting things to experience on a helicopter tour to the West Rim. The West Rim is only a 45-minute flight from Vegas, and it's the only place you can land on the canyon floor. In addition, you can add on a pass to experience the Grand Canyon Skywalk and take a float trip down the mighty Colorado River.

Tours to the South Rim are air only. Basic tours last 30 minutes and fly from the South Rim to the North Rim and back. The longer tour takes almost an hour and allows you to cover about three-fourths of the National Park. I strongly recommend this choice because you'll get great bang for your buck!

Tours Of The Grand Canyon By Airplane

An airplane tours covers the same route as a helicopter tour and you can even land at the canyon. There's only one South Rim plane tour and although it's at a higher altitude, it's similar to the 50-minute helicopter flight. Airplane tours to the West Rim depart daily and fly over the canyon or land you at the Grand Canyon West Airport. If you buy a landing package, you can add on a helicopter ride that takes you to the bottom of the canyon, a raft trip down the Colorado River, and a pass to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Grand Canyon Bus Tours

If you are staying in Vegas, you can take a bus tour to the South Rim or the West Rim, but if you are starting from Phoenix, you can only visit the South Rim. They're all-day trips on modern buses that are equipped with excellent climate control, recliner-type seating and clean restrooms. All of the tours that depart from Las Vegas make a stop at the Hoover Dam so you can see this immense structure and take photographs.

Bus tours to the South Rim that leave from the Phoenix area offer convenient pickup service from various locations including Scottsdale. They stop in Sedona, Arizona (known for its remarkable red sandstone buttes) along the way, but you'll have 2 hours at the National Park, which is plenty of time to add an optional helicopter flight.

Smooth-Water Rafting Tours

These tours are great fun but they only operate from late March until November. When you depart from Vegas, you will ride a helicopter to the West Rim and descend to the floor of the canyon where your raft awaits to take you eleven miles through the rocky canyon on the Colorado River. The South Rim has a fifteen mile long version that starts at Glenn Canyon Dam in Page, Arizona and concludes at the historic site known as Lee's Ferry.

What You Need To Know

Grand Canyon tour packages are all-inclusive, meaning they include free hotel pickup and drop-off, all Park fees and taxes, lunch, and the services of a guide. These packages are fantastic deals and make sure you will have plenty of exciting things to do on your trip.

Use the Internet whenever you're buying tickets for a Grand Canyon tour. You'll get the best prices there, but you do need to complete the entire transaction online.
