Your Heart Doctor Can Help Prevent Heart Diseases

It is a general notion for people who are reasonably fit and who eat a healthy diet with some exercise to think that they need not see a heart doctor at all. This is true only till a certain age; after that its better to be safe than sorry.

Of course you have to immediately consult your heart doctor if you experience anything amiss like any kind of chest pain. Even if you are at a high risk because of your lifestyle choices or your genetic disposition, its better to see a cardiologist sooner than later to ensure that you dont suffer from some of these common heart conditions.

Coronary artery disease

Coronary artery disease is caused by atherosclerosis wherein there is a buildup of plaque in the arteries. This leads to a narrowing of the arteries and consequently, less room for blood flow throughout the body. Any heart doctor will tell you that this can lead to serious consequences as without a good blood flow in the body, there is a chance of angina developing to lead to chronic chest pain. In serious cases, it can also lead to clots in the artery which in turn leads to a heart attack. The risk factors for this heart disease are high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure and smoking.

Mitral valve prolapse

It is generally men who have a tendency of suffering from problems related to the cardiovascular system. This is thought to be related to the fact that men tend to have all their extra weight in the abdomen and chest region. According to studies, this is exactly the area that is the most dangerous to arterial health. However on the contrary, mitral valve prolapse is a heart condition that affects women more than men.

According to health doctors, a person suffers from this condition when the valves that are necessary for good blood flow do not open and close as they should. This in turn leads to palpitations and fatigue in the patient, and in some cases, there are even no symptoms at all.

Congenital disease

It is not always that a heart disease occurs because of lifestyle choices. Some unlucky people are born with some congenital defects that can lead to various problems of various severity throughout their lives. Though the cause for these defects are not known, it is usually some chromosome abnormalities that are to be blamed like abnormal blood vessels, bad arterial connections and defective or obstructive valves.

If you are diagnosed with such defects, it is advised that you remain in regular contact with your heart doctor to ensure you receive the treatment you require at the right time.
