The distance from Shimla to Kullu is around 235 km by road. The time taken to cover this distance by car is around 7 hours as the roads run through mountainous terrains. In fact they enjoy direct connectivity by means of road only. The road route will take one through the following places Shimla - 92 km -> Bilaspur - 44 km -> Sunder Nagar -24 km -> Mandi - 70 km -> Kullu. There are many petrol pumps and eateries along the way as well as clean restrooms.

Kullu does not have a railway station. Hence rail travel to Shimla is only possible from Kalka (KLK), which is the nearest train station connected to Shimla. Some of the popular trains connecting both the places are Himalyan Queen (52456), Sml Klk Pass (52458), Rail Motor (72452), Shivalk Dlx Exp (52452) and the Sml Klk Express (52454) among others. Online advance ticket reservation is possible through the website of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporations (IRCTC) web site. In fact, it is prudent to reserve ones tickets while travelling to Kullu, especially during the holiday seasons.
How To Travel From Shimla To Kullu


Since there is no airport in Kullu, air travel is not possible between the two places. However, hiring a cab is an excellent way of reaching Kullu from Shimla, especially if one is travelling with family consisting of kids and elders or with friends. The cabs charge INR 5000 to INR 7500 for a round trip, depending on the type of vehicle preferred.
