subject: Your Special Wedding Daze [print this page] Its almost here, your big dayIts almost here, your big day. Youve got so much to sort out: the catering, the invites, the wedding transportation. All that seems irrelevant though, because theres one thing thats dominating your mind, keeping you up at night. It has to be different, it has to be special, it has to be memorable. Everyone thats attending has to remember that this is your day, this was your wedding. You know how it is, these sorts of things blend into one, this wedding, that wedding, all you can remember is a church, a white dress, some awful canapes, the bog standard rolls royce and a room full of people you vaguely know. Theres the faint recollection of your partners terrible drunken dancing too, but youre suppressing that. It didnt happen. It did. Not. Happen.
Thats not good enough for you. Youve found the person that you want to spend you life with, all those awful first dates and awkward breakaways are behind you and youre in love. Surely that deserves something a bit special, something that every guest will never forget.
How do you achieve that? Well, you have 2 real options. The first one is to go all in, to be totally different and unique. A church wedding? Everyone has been there, most of your guests will have done it enough to have entire wardrobes full of the T-Shirt. How about getting married in a country house instead? Its certainly an impressive setting but its still a little average.
A beach then perhaps; what could be better than getting married beneath the open sky and next to one of natures most beautiful wonders. It would be amazing, if the beach was how it appeared in the sunset and sepia stained lense of the movies. Its not though. Sorry. Even if you can ignore the charming smell of damp seaweed and the vast impracticality of wearing pretty shoes when theres crabs prowling about looking for tasty ankles to snip, theres still one big, white, greedy problem. No, not the bride! Seagulls. Strangely enough, its hard to create the sort of romantic vibe that suits your special day when the backing music is the shriek of a hundred birds as they circle unsettlingly around the covered food table, their cruel eyes glinting with the sort of hunger that makes you wonder if this will be a wonderful moment for you two or a Hitchcock classic.
There is another option though, one that is less likely to end in death, divorce or a guest appearance on Dont Tell the Bride. Be different, be creative but dont overdo it. Get a
distinctive cake, find a venue with a cool attraction or arrive via an unusual wedding transport. Rather than trying to blow your guests away, make your special day stick in their minds because you got married by a close friend or by having you and your wedding party arrived in something wacky like a fleet of customised wedding rickshaws.
