Log Cabins an international form of housing.

Log cabins have long been a symbol of warmth and shelter. Typically cabins have been an iconic item of mountain-esque decor and scenery. No matter what the season is, whether it is in the deep cold of winter or in the high heat of summer. Cabins have provided a certain magical allure to outdoor lovers and lovers of history for years and continue to do so.

Depending on region and time will affect how old cabins would be built. Most historians agree that the construction of the log cabins has roots in Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Which then of course spread to Russia and further down into Europe. By then the knowledge of log cabin construction was well known the European explorers who later discovered the Americas which we see all over the North American Continent. Some cabins stand merely as memories of a time long gone, others of recent construction stand as vacationing spots or outdoor retreat housing.

The first basic build for a cabin were to take tree stumps and have them be the four points of a square. Then whole round logs would be stacked on top of each other creating the walls. Later on, the ends of logs had notches formed or carved into them so as to make interlocking pieces with the other logs. The roof would be constructed a similar way with an opening to let air out as well as smoke from built in hearths or fire places. Also later the roofs would be made more flat and then sometime have earth or dirt put upon them.

Dirt, moss, clay and mud we also a staple part of building the cabin. These elements were used to fill in the crevices, cracks and spaces in between the logs. As many of cabins were built in higher elevations of the mountains these building have to be able to fend off against the cold of winter, thus why filling in the spaces and cracks was pertinent.

The log cabin has inspired a long standing decorating style that is incorporated in homes all over the country. Whether it is a new house modeled after the log cabin look or merely the interior decorating of log furniture and such. Log cabins have inspired architects and designers for years.

Lovers of the outdoors love to find locations that offer certain cabin amenities to really make their vacations and trips more authentic and to really feel connected to the outdoors. Many resorts in mountains and plains areas offer this. Resorts contained with in National Parks contain many of these for visitors of the park. Towns located near or close to these parks will also have cabins. Sometimes the entire town is model after log cabin dcor and architecture. The cabins at Thousand Springs Resort near Branson offers an authentic cabin feel for all it guests searching for that magical connection to the outdoors that only a cabin can offer.
