Another noteworthy attraction is the Omkareshwara temple. It is said that this temple was built in the year 1820 CE. Legend has it that Lingrajendra II, who was the king who built it; put a pious Brahmin to death and that the dead man haunted the king. The king built the temple to keep the deceased at peace and away.

Coorg is very well connected with major destinations in Karnataka. Roads connect Madikeri with Bangalore, Mysore, Kannur, Thalasery, Hassan and Wayanad. The nearest railheads are in Thalasery, Kannur, Mangalore, Mysore and Hassan. The nearest airport is in Mysore which is 130 km from Madikeri. Mangalore airport is 140 km far from Madikeri.

Coorg is also the home to some famous personalities in India. Field Marshal K.M Cariappa, Robin Uthappa, Ashwini Ponnappa and D.V Sadananda Gowda among others are noteworthy personality to be mentioned.

Kallipodhu is a very famous festival of Coorg. It is celebrated on the 3rd of September every year. It signifies the transplantation of the rice crop. Another notable festival is Kaveri Sankramana which takes place in mid-October. Coorg is also very famous for its coffee plantations. It is one the largest coffee producers in India.
