Some of you may not have seen Taylor play live and may not know what to anticipate. I was lucky enough to have seen Taylor play last year during her Fearless tour and I thought i would leave a couple of impressions. Although I have seen a lot of footage and news about her Speak Now tour, I dont want to give too much away about that. You will enjoy it a lot more if you dont know all the fine points before you see her.
I should make known that im a fifty year old musician so although I am a Taylor fan, im not your typical Taylor fan.
Taylor Swift is not your normal pimped out diva. She is very much a real performer and songwriter and that feeling continues throughout her show. Her band plays very well but there is very little if any digital trickery going on. You are hearing them play live, when they play. Taylors vocals were pretty good, especially considering she had played about fifty shows before I saw her. The audience pretty much sings out every song, which for some songs is a bit annoying. After all, I want to hear Taylor sing her songs. Fortunately for some of the quiter songs, the crowd did quiet down and Taylors vocals were admirable.
Does Taylor put on a show? You bet. The sets she used for her tour encorporated castles, staircases, tree scenerys and much more. Having seen many supergroups perform, I can honestly say that Taylors backgrounds and scenery effects are top notch. In one song (you know the one)there is a rain machine that pours down on Taylor while she sings. The rain spells out NO on the way down.By the end Taylor is totally drenched. In between songs there were a few videos to get the crowd warmed up. As if they needed warming up. Taylor got tremendous roars of approval throughout the show. Sometimes it seemed they may not stop. The girl is well loved.Taylor jumps around the stage, throws her hair around like wild woman, and interacts with the crowd and her band. This lady is also a hard worker.
Taylor popped up in the audience a couple times during her performance, and I hear that is also the case with the current tour also. These were my preferred parts as they were very personal. These songs were generally slower songs that were just Taylor and her guitar, and really, they were excellent. At one point Taylor explains that her old guitar teacher told her she would never play the 12 string because her hands were too small. Then she belts out some nice chords on her 12 string to the crowds favor. At one point in the show Taylor even plays an oilcan drum duet, and once more its pretty impressive.
I would recommend seeing Taylors new tour to just about anyone. You will be seeing and hearing a legendary songwriter and performer at a concert im sure you will remember your entire life. For more information on Taylor Swift Tour Dates 2011, please visit the links below.
