Parenting Help - Where And How To Get It When You Are Desperate

Parenting help can be found on the Internet through the forums and helplines. There are many available, too numerous to mention here. If you prefer to meet people face to face and get real help and support rather than rely on cyber reality, these are also available in your local area. They may be organized by local churches, schools or other charitable organizations.

But there are also official bodies and government agencies which can offer parenting help. For example in the UK, if your child is continually playing truant or behaves disruptively, you can sign a Parenting Contract. This actually gives you access to practical help in dealing with the truancy and also any behavioral issues. This can be a great help to parents who do not know where to turn.

The next stage is when the child continues to skip school, the authorities may issue you with a Parenting Order which actually compels parents to attend a parenting help program. There are other mechanisms in place to ensure that your child is actually attending school and those parents who do not comply, may actually end up in prison! This is an extreme case scenario and is only applied where the parents have not made any effort at all in ensuring that the truancy problem is resolved.

When seeking parenting help, lots of parents ask about getting kids to help with chores so that they are trained to take responsibility for these and also gives the parents a breather, especially after a long week's work.

There is nothing wrong in giving kids money in return for chores well done. We should help them choose chores that are suitable for their age and their temperament. Then we can keep a points chart and so on. It is sometimes fun to draw up a contract and specify the quality of service that you want and expect before any payment is made. The idea of teaching the kids the value of working for money is very important and can start very early.

If finances are tight, you can offer incentives instead for example, a child may choose his favorite menu for dinner, favorite TV program or where to go on an outing.

There are many other behavior issues which can be addressed when seeking parenting help. The book I recommend below covers all aspects of child behavior and has been written by a parent who also happens to be a parenting coach.

Why not have a look and see how this could really bring back peace and harmony to your home. Parenting will soon be a joy again!
