This year sees the arrival of a new initiative in the Italian city of Verona, which will allow couples to marry in a small number of specially selected villas and palaces in the centre of the city and surrounding areas. Thanks to an agreement with the town hall of Verona and the private owners of these venues, each location will make a room or external space available to celebrate civil weddings.
Presently, Italian law states that couples can only legally get married in Italy in places which are either owned or managed by the local council, meaning that in most cities and areas of Italy ceremony venues are separate from the venue in which a wedding reception will take place. There are some exceptions to the rule however, and it is hoped that new projects like this will encourage more visitors to the area to get married in the area, as well as making the process a lot easier for locals as well.
The venues have been chosen for either their architectural design and structure, influence in history, the fact that they play host to important works of art or for other reasons of local and national importance and interest. This means that each palace or villa has a particularly historical or aesthetic importance making it a dream location for any bride.
Of course, this is great news for the growing number of people who are choosing to travel abroad to get married. Italy in particular, is a popular destination for many foreign weddings, and Verona is one of the best spots in the country to do so.
The city's cobbled streets and medieval architecture mean that Verona is one of the most picturesque in the whole of Italy no mean feat in itself. In fact, the city is one of the few places in the world to have been awarded the accolade of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and within the city gates visitors will be able to find many preserved ancient Roman monuments. It's fair to say that there are many sights in the city that would make a fantastic backdrop in any wedding photograph.
And if that mental picture isn't enough, Verona is well known as the home of the most famous couple of all time Romeo and Juliet! William Shakespeare chose the city as the home of the two famous lovers, and newlyweds in the area can see famous sights such as Juliet's balcony and her family's house after their wedding in Verona
Bearing all of that in mind, Verona is one of the most romantic places in the whole world, and an ideal place to carry out a wedding, especially now that you can carry out a wedding ceremony and reception in the same place there.
